Linux Is Everywhere. Now There’s A Plan to Make It for Everyone Linux is everywhere these days. It runs our phones, the web servers that underpin everything from Facebook to Google, even our cars. That means there’s a bigger demand for people who know how to work with the operating system than ever before, and those jobs often pay good money.

The Linux Foundation is a non-profit that not only helps maintain and develop core parts of the Linux operating system but also provides education and certification to information professionals who manage Linux servers. Today the organization announced The Extended Learning Linux Foundation Scholarship Program, an educational initiative aimed at helping people from disadvantaged backgrounds gain the skills they need to start careers in information technology.

Microsoft to start pushing Windows 10 on more business users It's another expansion of the company's continued pressure to upgrade

Microsoft is pushing Windows 10 on a group of previously off-limits users as its new operating system nears the six month anniversary of its release. The company revealed Wednesday that users who are running Windows 7 Pro or Windows 8.1 Pro can expect to start seeing the Get Windows 10 app in their taskbar, suggesting that they upgrade to the new OS.

Those people who have Windows PCs at home that are configured as normal likely won't be that put off by the message, since it's the same one that popped up on their desktop at home. The change is part of Microsoft's ongoing work to push Windows 10 upgrades in front of more people to try and get them to move over to the new OS before the offer of a free upgrade expires

—but the original, non-Start button version of Windows 8. After Tuesday’s updates, Microsoft will cease support for the 3 year, 2 month, and 17-day old operating system. That means Windows 8 is going the way of Windows XP; no more security updates, no bug fixes, nothing.

To connect to the Internet, the iKettle needs to know your Wi-Fi password, which it stores in the clear in its memory, Boing Boing's Cory Doctorow explained. "The kettle is also naïve enough to connect to any network that has the same name as yours".

So all an attacker has to do is use a specialized antenna to overpower your wifi signal, right through the walls of your house, and trick the kettle into connecting to their spoof network, and then they can extract your wifi password and connect to your network.
